You know, I gotta pipe in on this one. I once played a set at a small party in summer 1995 with records which were new that week (from Watts distribution, but they were out for the first week on public market.) I ran a small record ordering service at the time, and could get my tunes quick and fresh. So back to the story, I played this set in the summer of 1995 at one party. A trainspotting bitch ass dj, who I really didnt care for at the time, sat there in front of the dj booth with pen in hand while women danced to NEW FRESH tunes. He blocked the booth from anyone else's view, and blocked the crowd from my view. I wanted to see hot girlie asses, not some punk. One week later he had all the records that I had researched, purchased, and created a set with... and he was playing the an almost exact set at another party. The piss-artist didnt even buy the records through me, he had to go through two other sources to find the majority of the choons he wrote down. He sucked spinning them, but all the same, the damage was done. This kind of shit is really lame. This is why its exceptable that a dj disguises his tunes. It takes a few weak minded fools to ruin things for someone who puts out the sumpreme extra effort in research and purchasing habit to please the listeners. dan drunken slur: menz mazza rozit tie robi@booyaka.com re: Still looking for a replacement copy of Autechre "Amber" on vinyl. who's go one for sale? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Reminds me of the stories I hear about the fierce competitions between various sound system teams in Jamaica. Apparently they often send some of the younger members or siblings to attend the other parties to do precisely what you describe, only more discreetly! Its really easy to get beat up or even killed if you are found caught stealing tracks or pieces of a competing sounds system's set! SOLUTION: Just find a cheap chrome plated automatic pistol and stick it down the front of your pants (Id do it unloaded) and pull your shirt over it. When the lamer comes back to gank your set you can see HIS tune change as you flash him your piece - with the added drama of the flashing club lights gleaming off the chrome firearm! This may be less prudent if your wimpy state or country doesnt have a Concealed Carry law - but why DJ anywhere else? (the above is humor, thank you) ernie np: Nader 2000 - ok its not a record, but it's music to my ears!!!!
